It’s the font of museum halls and monuments, and it’s one of my favorites. Futura is exactly what its moniker evokes: the past kindling the future. In its forms, Futura strives for perfection through finely tuned circles, meticulously balanced symmetries, and points that end just shy of infinity. But its extensive engineering makes it evidently not from the future.
In the In Times of Futura Past series, I pull lyrical ear worms from pop culture and set them against vintage photographs. Futura is the solder that holds them together.
